About
Ricardo Barros is an internationally recognized artist who provides corporate and editorial photography services to clients throughout the United States. For Princeton University alone, Barros has shot over twenty covers in the past five years. His trademark portrait for these clients is a comfortable, confident subject in (an apparently) natural light and elegant composition.
Ricardo Barros is also an experienced teacher. “I’ve taught several workshops, some mostly technical and others mostly aesthetic. Through them I’ve learned that people can master the ‘how’ fairly quickly. The real challenge lies in engaging students with the more meaningful grapple of ‘what’ and ‘why’
Barros’ personal work is in the permanent collection of ten museums, including:
- The Smithsonian Museum of American Art
- Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP), Brazil
- Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS), Brazil
- The Philadelphia Museum of Art
- The Fogg Art Museum
- The DeCordova Museum
Ricardo Barros is represented by The Wexler Gallery, in Philadelphia, PA.
“The true benefit of a broad expertise”, Barros says, “is that it allows you to flexibly adapt to inspiration of the present moment.”
This is exactly what Barry Schwabsky, of The New York Times, was referring to when he reviewed of Barros’ portraiture:
“Each of these portraits has clearly been thought through differently – composed differently, lighted differently – reflecting the collaborative nature of his work with the sculptors Mr. Barros has chosen to portray. … He seems to know that a certain degree of critical tension will give liveliness and complexity to his images, but he lets the tension remain a nuance. … Like a good critic who draws you deeper into the art – who, by making you feel the limits of mere criticism, renews your appetite for the art itself …”
