Urban Ingredients

(A group show, 11 artists, various media.)

I will be presenting a half-dozen images from my “Touching the Hood” book project. This project collects my observations of graffiti writing culture made over a five-year period. These observations are expressed visually through photographs and verbally through a manuscript. I am presently seeking to place this book project with a publisher or literary agent.

Dalet Gallery, July 1 – 30. Opening reception July 1, 5-9 PM.

Deepening Your Relationship with Photography
Ricardo Barros at  Princeton Photography Club, Princeton NJ, October  2011 – May 2012

Join us for this six-evening seminar as we visit select destinations within the photography landscape. Our journey will pass through diverse genres (landscapes, still life, portraits, etc.,) so we can better appreciate what specialists have learned in each field.  More importantly, we will study how the photographers we admire have visually distinguished themselves.  Even for the most virtuoso practitioners, the technical aspects of their achievements account for a relatively small portion of their successes. Few people are prepared to meaningfully address the root strength of these photographers’ accomplishments: Why do their photographs move us? This seminar will grapple with this challenging inquiry. We will look at the context and appropriateness of several, creative approaches. You will be expected to participate in provocative discussions, show us your work as it develops, identify and articulate goals for your photography, receive critical feedback, and thoughtfully respond to views that may differ radically from your own. Don’t be surprised if your portfolio looks very different after taking this seminar!

Seminar Cost: $185

Seminar Capacity: 10 Attendees

Registration: Please contact Carl Geisler carlgeisler@gmail.com
